Welcome
If you are new to our camera club, this page will tell you a few of the essential details about our meetings (where we meet, how much it costs, that sort of thing). Really, the
best way to find out what we are like and whether what we do is what you are looking for in a camera club is for you to come along and give it a try ...... visitors to our club evenings are always welcome and for the princely sum of £4 what hve you got to lose?
Who are we ?
We are a small friendly group with an interest in all types of photography. Our members hail from the village of South Petherton and from other towns and villages in the locality. Members are of a wide range of photographic backgrounds, from novice to experienced. What we all have in common is enjoyment in taking photographs and in learning a little more of the art and craft of photography as we go along.
We do have a formal constitution which says a bit more about what the aims of the club are and how it is organised - click
here to see it (opens in a new window).
What do we do ?
We try to make our meetings interesting for everyone whatever your experience and whatever your camera of choice - dslr, point-and-shoot, or tablet/smartphone. We aim to improve our photographic skills, learn how to take really good pictures, and perhaps how to manipulate the images using a PC and imaging software. This may include
presentations from well known photographers, or from members of the club with particular knowledge and experience on a specific topic, or practical evenings. We also run a monthly photo 'challenge', a very informal competition on a theme where we vote on our favourite image and the winner gets a round of applause. We enter the local annual inter-club competition called the Bradford Abbas Shield
in which ourselves and camera clubs from Dorchester, Sherborne, Wincanton, and Yeovil pit our chosen 10 images against each other. We also put on an annual exhibition of members' photographs onthe first Saturday in September.
When do we meet ?
Our in-person meetings are normally held on the first Wednesday of each month and start at 7.30pm. (lasting approx 2 hours). We also have the occasional field trip/photo-shoot events. As well as the 'face-to-face' meetings, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month we have a programme of Zoom meetings featuring speakers from all over the country. These too start at 7:30pm. Joining instructions are sent out about a week before the meeting.
Where do we meet ?
We meet at the Blake Hall, South Petherton for our face-to-face meetings: it is located in the 'The Square' in the centre of the village, between The Brewers Arms and St Peter and St Paul's church. TA13 5BT for your sat-nav. There is usually plenty of parking in the streets close by. Please note that there is a significant staircase to negotiate from the main entrance - there is a chair lift, so please let us know if you need any assistance gaining access.
How much does it cost ?
Normal entrance fee:- Members free - Visitors £5 on the door. Annual membership (payable in September): adult £45 / couples £80 / full-time student £20. Visitors are welcome to come up to three times before deciding whether to join for the season as members. We are happy to have visitors join us for Zoom meetings as well: the fee for these is also £5.
